DESCRIPTION
Seeking to provide Québec creators with a better understanding of Mexico’s cultural and artistic legacies, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (Conseil) signed an initial cooperation agreement back in 2000 with the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA) to set up an exchange program for artists and writers. Under this successful initiative, over 100 Mexican and Québec creators have taken part in residencies in Québec and Mexico.
Renewed in 2022 with the same partner now named Sistema de apoyos a la creacion y proyectos culturales (SACPC), the agreement covers various artistic disciplines. Each year, four Québecers complete a three-month residency in Mexico, while four Mexicans do the same in Québec. The idea is for participants to draw on a wide range of professional contact opportunities that could help with career development.
In both Québec and Mexico, grant recipients are hosted by a professional organization depending on their artistic discipline and the specific features of their projects. Each residency will run for three consecutive months in 2025 only. The dates of stay must be confirmed with the host parter.
