DESCRIPTION

This program aims to meet the needs in development, consolidation, and adaptation of companies and organizations working in the Quebec film industry in a context of changing offer, supply, promotion, and distribution of films. It also aims to stimulate revenues from the distribution of local and international films that are not widely presented as well as promoting the competitiveness of Quebec companies distributing and presenting Quebec cinema in national markets.

This section supports projects or strategic initiatives that strengthen the role of companies working in the fields of the promotion and distribution of Quebec cinema.

CRITERIA

To be eligible for financial support, companies must meet the following specific conditions:

  • Have been in business for at least two years or demonstrate relevant professional experience for management or staff; In addition, these companies or professional associations are evaluated according to their experience and their ability to organize, manage, develop, and evolve the projects for which they are requesting financial assistance:
    • Distributors
    • Commercial presenters (operators of commercial cinemas and drive-ins)
    • Presenting and programming organizations
    • Producers
    • Quebec independent digital platforms and aggregators
    • Quebec associations working in the film industry
    • Any private organization with experience in the proposed project that can demonstrate its business relationship with the film industry
  • Collective projects must be submitted by a single applicant, although the partners involved in the project may belong to more than one business category. Within the framework of this program, the SODEC cannot collaborate in the financing of a company’s or association’s operations. Instead, it favours additional funding for projects that provide benefits for companies eligible for this assistance program (distributors, commercial presenters, and distribution and programming organizations). The benefits can also extend to other players in the world of Quebec cinema.

The following projects are eligible, but are not limited to these examples:

  • Projects related to audience development in Quebec audiences, including study projects on current Quebec audiences
  • Projects related to the presence, accessibility, and discoverability of Quebec films
  • Projects related to the Quebec cinema brand
  • Projects aimed at developing new digital promotion strategies
  • Collective structuring projects
  • Professional initiatives and events
  • Experimental or technology-development projects in promotion and distribution.

EXPENSES

  • Direct costs of labour assigned to the project, including mediation costs for the distribution of the project
  • Project-related fees
  • Project production and implementation expenses, including expenses for designing and testing a prototype
  • Expenses for materials and equipment specific to the project (limited to a maximum of 50% of the assistance)
  • The project’s promotional expenses
  • Expenses related to the purchase of specialized information that is relevant and necessary for the project’s realization
  • Expenses for transportation of equipment and materials
  • Expenses for technological adaptation
  • Administrative expenses (limited to a maximum of 10% of the assistance)
  • All other relevant and necessary expenses for the realization of the project. In the case of collaborative projects with companies outside Quebec, only expenses assumed by the applicant are eligible.
