Small-Scale Activities

DESCRIPTION

Small-Scale Activities is part of the Creating, Knowing and Sharing: The Arts and Cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples program. It funds activities that will advance your artistic career or practice. This may include acquiring materials for artistic production, engaging in career or artistic development activities or benefitting from specific expertise, advice or training from a professional artist or cultural carrier. First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals, artistic groups, collectives and organizations working in all disciplines can apply.

CRITERIA

Potential applicants:

  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis artists or arts/cultural workers
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis cultural carriers
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis emerging artists
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis groups or collectives
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis not-for-profit organizations
  • First Nations, Inuit or Métis for-profit organizations

Organizations presently receiving core grants cannot apply.

 

Activities must be led by eligible First Nations, Inuit or Métis artists, cultural carriers or arts and cultural professionals.

You can apply to:

  • purchase or acquire specialized materials for artistic production
  • pay honoraria to other professional artists or cultural carriers for specific expertise, advice or training
  • engage in career or artistic development activities

Ineligible activities:

  • Fashion modelling
  • Hunting and trapping activities unrelated to your artistic practice
  • Activities solely related to ceremony

EXPENSES

Expenses directly related to your activities. These can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Fees and honoraria:
    • Applicants can include fees to pay themselves for the role they play in the project activities. Fees should not exceed $1,000.
    • Fees and honoraria paid to other artistic or cultural participants

Enter these amounts on the Artists and Professional Fees, Cultural Participant Fees OR Compensation OR Personal Costs line.

  • Honoraria paid to Elders and Knowledge Keepers for specific training, consultation, labour and/or as a thank you for their time and knowledge. Enter these amounts on the Honoraria for Elders and Knowledge Keepers line.
  • Costs for collecting or harvesting artistic materials and/or purchasing materials directly related to the proposed activity. Enter these amounts on the Other Artistic and Project Expenses line.
  • One-time training or workshop expenses (not an ongoing program of study), conference and/or symposium fees. Enter these amounts on the Registration Fees for Professional Development line or the Registration Fees for Market Development line, as applicable.
  • Marketing materials. Enter these amounts on the Other Production, Technical and Programming Expenses line.
  • Travel costs directly related to the proposed activity, up to $1,500. Enter these amounts in the Travel Expenses section.

Important!

If your travel expenses are more than $1,500, you must apply under the Creating, Knowing and Sharing Travel funding opportunity.

  • Safety-related expenses to make your project safe for participants, such as supplementary insurance riders, safety gear, on-site specialists, etc. Enter these expenses on the Safety-Related Costs line.
  • Child or dependent care expenses if they are required to complete your activity (excluding regular, ongoing expenses). Enter these expenses on the Childcare/Dependent Care Costs line.

Ineligible expenses:

  • Capital expenses such as studio, studio equipment, computer, cell phone, etc. are not eligible.

DOCUMENTS

  • An arts and culture CV(or resume) for each individual involved in the activity
  • A letter or email of invitation, confirmation or agreement from participant(s), host, organization or venue, if applicable
  • A sample of your work or activities that is relevant to this application
    • You may include the work of other key artists or partners, or earlier work that provides a context for your application.
