ARTS2U: ARTSCAST Pilot Project
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, ARTS2U project will be including live broadcast events to its arts event listings. The ARTSCAST Pilot Project addresses in depth details regarding inclusion and added value of live broadcasts to ARTS2U. The broadcast series entitled ARTSCAST will validate the concept that higher quality productions can both broadcast and archive and eventually create higher value for artist return on the release digital media packages.
Artists, adjusting on the fly, have outputted diverse collections of live broadcasts of all styles, from live painting to theatre performances to a high volume of music live streams with varying degrees of success. Most streams are released for free. Some artists have been able to sell tickets to their broadcasts or take donations through crowd funding and social media platforms. Others have been able to access grants and funding from organizations like the NAC and SOCAN. But sales of arts performances have not been substantially generated at anywhere close to a sustainable level for the benefit of creators. To address the paradigm shift the arts sector will benefit from the ARTSCAST timely study and reporting of activities. The output of ARTSCAST will be to document lessons learned by artists in live broadcast productions. A report on best practices and production guides will also report on how audiences react to the broadcast series.
